Negli ultimi cinque anni sono stati condotti 37 diversi studi clinici in diverse parti del mondo utilizzando farmaci a base di cannabinoidi. Questi i risultati di una rassegna pubblicata online su Cannabinoids: The Journal of the International Association for Cannabinoid Medicines (IACM), associazione internazionale della quale l’Associazione Cannabis Therapeutics is the Italian subsidiary.
Researchers at the University of Leiden in Belgium and the nova-Institut in Germany have conducted a systematic review on clinical trials regarding the medical use of smoked cannabis is that of cannabinoids. The authors identified 37 controlled studies published from 2005 to August 2009, for a total of 2563 patients. Of the 37 studies, eleven involved the effect on chronic neuropathic pain, a pain difficult to treat due to damage to the nervous system. Other studies have evaluated the effectiveness of cannabinoids in spasticity associated with multiple sclerosis (nine studies), AIDS (four), the experimental pain (four); dysfunction bowel (two), nausea / vomiting / appetite (two), schizophrenia (two), glaucoma (one), and "other information" (two).
The authors conclude: "Based on clinical findings, cannabinoids have therapeutic potential particularly interesting as analgesic in chronic neuropathic pain, such as appetite stimulants in debilitating diseases (cancer and AIDS), as well as in the treatment of multiple scaler.
