AMERICANA 7: INSALATE IN FORMISSIMA

LAJULES

Today I present a series in the form of salads, or Molded Salads . The ability to shape the formless salad is usually given, surprise surprise, the gelatin powder. The back of the card gives the recipe of two salads, Sunshine Salad (salad of sun) and Cinnamon-Applesauce Salad (salad with cinnamon and apple sauce). The first salad is made with a package of lemon gelatin powder, salt, and a can of crushed pineapple and grated carrot. The second provides for the salad instead of the usual box of lemon gelatin, a handful of little cinnamon candies (Giuro!) and a cup and a half of apple sauce. I think the salad pictured in the photo below is the one with pineapple and carrots. What do you say?

I do not want to be offended that the provincial salads with more than three ingredients. Is it true that I grew up with a salad of tomatoes at most an occasional cucumber, but I learned to appreciate the much more laborious American salads with salad, cranberry, crumbled blue cheese, walnuts, cherry tomatoes, avocado, mushrooms and 'ubiquitous vinaigrette. But without a trace of green salads and fruit syrup and candy I had never seen. Even if, after all, is always gelatin to scare me. How would Gareth the British series The Office , "I do not like jelly. I do not trust his movements."

AMERICANA 6: FONDUTA AI BBIUSTEL

OF LAJULES

Here we are on the sixth episode of Americana, the series that shows the horrors of the kitchen of the '70s through the recipe cards to the company Betty Crocker. Today's recipe is yet another provocation based bbiustel. The recipe called Batter Franks (bbiustel in batter) and belongs to the series of fondue. It makes a batter made with eggs, milk, prepared cake Bisquick, cornmeal, senape in polvere, paprica, e peperoncino di Cayenna.

Invece presented us with a hail of punches in the stomach in the shape of bbiustel cocktail wrapped in a chrysalis of batter bionics.

AMERICANA 5: SOGNI D'ORO, MAIALINI!

OF LAJULES

Today's recipe is titled Pigs in Blankets (Pigs in a blanket). To achieve that, you need the mini-bbiustel and a box of baking mix Biskquick , a compound usually used for pancakes, waffles and cakes. The choice of Bisquick surprised me, since this recipe, in Italy, is made with puff pastry. I conclude therefore that the Pigs in Blankets are among the sweet and salty combination that fully satisfies the craving for convenience Americans who want to have everyone at full power in one gulp.

There is one dramatic difference between the Pigs and pretzels to bbiustel I've tasted a few little party birthday particularly successful: the rectangles of dough are 10 cm long, which seems a bit 'so for a pretzel. Besides, if we look at the photos carefully, we note that the proportion of Pigs and olives is pretty amazing. In this picture, but 'I love in particular the sow straw that monitors her children while they sleep in the warmth, wrapped in their covers of butter and flour.

AMERICANA 4: GELATO FRIZZANTE

OF LAJULES

Today we talk about unusual uses Sparkling Sodas (soft drinks effervescent). The recipes described on the back of the card refer to the so-called ice-cream sodas, floats or , or desserts made with ice cream drowned in a fizzy drink. Ice cream, to be honest, you could not define drowned, as floats (float) just below the ball of foam sparkling beverage of your choice. In the photo, you can probably see a baby born the same year as Alec struggling with a Grape Ice Cream Soda made with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream and a glass of grape soda.

I'm not sure a good judge of this American recipe, since I avoid soft drinks for the past many years to take taste and thirst-Saharan Africa that leave me after they consumed. But for those interested, here's some useful information on ice-cream sodas : The recipe is American and was born in 1800 in Philadelphia. Was an immediate smash hit and is offered in many variations. Among the drinks used for ice-cream sodas is the seltzer, the Coca-Cola, Sprite, Ginger Ale, Root Beer (we'll talk) and other soft drinks and fruit of which Italy has always was dark. The most famous example is the chocolate ice-cream soda, made with vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, seltzer, whipped cream and a cherry. I've never been able to taste this specialty, probably because it has gone a bit 'out of fashion. Judge for yourself.

I noticed only now that the recipe belongs to the series "Children Can Make Recipes" (recipes that can make even the children). Miraccomando, children, power is not duty.
